Day1: Saigon Arrival
Our representative/tour guide will meet and greet you at the airport. Transfer to the city for hotel check-in. Free at leisure to make your own exploration to discover the bustling city of Saigon. Overnight in Saigon
Day 2: Saigon - Cu Chi Tunnels (Meals: B)
A morning city tour of dynamic Ho Chi Minh City, still called Saigon by many locals, takes in the former Presidential Palace, the Notre Dame Cathedral, Old Saigon Post Office, a lacquerware factory and Thien Hau Pagoda in the city's bustling Chinatown. In the afternoon visit the famous Cu Chi Tunnels, an incredible underground tunnel network constructed by Vietnamese resistance fighters during the long struggle for independence. Day 3: Saigon - Nha Trang (Meals: B)
Transfer to Saigon railway Station after breakfast for the day train to Nha Trang. The journey takes around nine hours but life both inside and outside the Reunification Express is never boring. Arrive in Nha Trang, Vietnam's premier beach destination, in the early evening and transfer to hotel. Overnight in Nha Trang.
Day 4: Nha Trang - Danang (Meals: B)
A morning boat trip on Nha Trang bay visits some of the nearby islands and there are opportunities to swim and snorkel in the clear warm waters. Return to shore after a fresh seafood lunch on one of the islands in the bay. The afternoon is free to relax on the beach before transferring to Nha Trang Railway Station to catch the overnight train to Danang. Overnight on train.
Day 5: Danang - Hoi An (Meals: B)
On arrival in Danang transfer to Hoi An, a major Asian trading port in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries whose architecture and relaxed lifestyle has changed little over the years. Take a walking tour of the ancient town centre to visit the former merchant's home, the 400 year-old Japanese Covered Bridge and the colorful market. Overnight in Hoi An.

Day 6: Hoi An - Hue (Meals: B)
Leave Hoi An after breakfast to visit the Marble Mountains, five sacred hills containing dozens of Buddhist shrines. Also visit China Beach, once famous as a beach resort for resting U.S. soldiers and the Cham Museum containing the finest collection of Cham sculpture in the world. Transfer to Danang Station to catch the local train to Hue. Only hard bench sets are available for this two and half hour journey but the spectacular scenery as the train snakes around the rugged coastline makes up for any discomfort. Arrive in Hue late in the afternoon and transfer to hotel. Overnight in Hue.
Day 7: Hue (Meals: B, L)
A boat trip on the romantically named Perfume River visits Hue's best-known religious site, Thien Mu Pagoda, and the mausoleum of former emperor Minh Mang, in a tranquil setting of gardens and lakes. In the afternoon visit the elaborate mausoleums of emperors Tu Duc and Khai Dinh and the Imperial Citadel from where the Nguyen Dynasty ruled between 1802 and 1945. Overnight in Hue.
Day 8: Hue - Hanoi (Meals: B)
A free morning to relax or further explore this historical city before transferring to Hue's pink-washed colonial station to catch the overnight sleeper train to Hanoi. Overnight on train.
Day 9: Hanoi (Meals: B)
Arrive in Hanoi early in the morning and transfer directly to hotel. Hanoi is a unique Asian city with tree-lined boulevard, French colonial architecture, peaceful lakes and oriental temples. A full day city tour includes such sights as Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum, the One Pillar Pagoda, the Fine Arts Museum, the Temple of Literature, the Lake of the Restored Sword and the Old Quarter. In the evening enjoy a traditional Vietnamese water puppet show. Overnight in Hanoi.
Day 10: Hanoi - Haiphong - Hanoi (Meals: B)
Transfer to Hanoi Station to take the local train to Hai Phong. Arrive in Hai Phong, Vietnam's third largest city, around noon. Hai Phong still has many impressive examples of classic European colonial architecture in its town centre. An early afternoon city tour along the wide boulevards includes a visit to Hang Kenh Tapestry Factory and the Du Hang Pagoda, founded over three centuries ago. Continue by road to Halong mid-afternoon. Overnight in Halong.
Day 11: Halong Bay Cruise - Hanoi (Meals: B, L)
A morning cruise in private junk on the emerald green waters of Halong Bay, among the 3,000 spectacular limestone islands. The cruise ends with a fresh seafood lunch on board. Return to Hanoi by road in the afternoon. Overnight in Hanoi.
Day 12: Hanoi Departure (Meals: B)
Departure day. At leisure until transfer to Noi Bai International Airport for the journey home. End of service |
